INSTALLING WINDOWS 7 VIA USB MASS STORAGE

It’s a good thing that your USB ports are working perfectly otherwise it might be difficult for this and many more yet to come. You see I stopped lastly on How to repairs faulty USB Ports not only for repair sake but to be able to benefit from the functionalities that comes thereafter, which this is one of. It’s relatively becoming difficult to enjoy PCs without making use of portable devices, ranging from wired accessories to wireless accessories. Wireless keyboard is one of the common devices particularly in practice by most users, so as glad as I am, so you (my reader) must be since your USB ports are in perfect shapes. Let’s go for it. Carrying all along a bunch of DVD & CD installation media is quite stressful and disturbing if not even annoying, while installation on most notbooks and notepads are greatly impossible without USB mass stick. Either you like it or not, the speed of installation from a USB storage device is relatively faster that through DVD drive and the last but not the least, fear of getting scratches on the plates of a DVD or breaking the plate accidentally is minimized with the option of USB Drive. Tools required Windows 7 installation media (Windows 7 DVD) USB drive with at least 4GBs free space. Procedures: Step 1: I will be using windows 7 as a case study - Plug-in your mass storage, backup your data and probably format it. - Open the command prompt administrator privilege (Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right-click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run as Administrator”). Step 2: - Type in this command: “DISKPART” without the quotaion marks. Step 3: - Type in this command, “LIST DISK”, this will list the entire available disk(s) present in the computer system. - After typing the command, it should look like this “DISKPART> list disk” Note: Your computer hard disk is the “Disk 0” which will be included in the List with the size, free space and status which will show “online”. So with size and status you ought to know your USB mass storage disk number. - Type in SELECT DISK (with it number starting from 1 since Disk 0 is the default Hard disk) i.e. if Disk 1 0r 2 is your mass storage, then type “SELECT DISK 1”. Step 4: - Proceed by typing the following commands one after the other: - CLEAN - CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY - SELECT PARTITION 1 - ACTIVE - FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK - ASSIGN - EXIT Once those commands are sucessfully executed, then you can minimize the command prompt and proceed to the next step. Step 5: - Insert windows 7 installation media and note the drive letter, mine was “F:” type the following commands - F:CD BOOT - CD BOOT - BOOTSECT.EXE/NT60 G: (please note that G: is the USB mass storage drive letter) - EXIT Step 6: - Copy all the content on the Windows 7 installation disk into your USB mass storage and that will do for now, your mass storage is ready to boot for use of installations. Note: In your BIOS settings, remember to enable “USB BOOT” while also changing your boot priority to USB DEVICE. Please show your support by commenting, thanks and hope it helps.
